to the website for the Willits Watershed Group. The focus of this group is the Outlet Creek Watershed, a headwaters sub-basin of the Eel River. It is the watershed that surrounds the town of Willits, California, extending north to the point where Outlet Creek meets the main stem of the Eel River between Longvale and Dos Rios.

Vision:

Our Vision is a healthy Outlet Creek watershed supporting an economy based on a vibrant and functioning ecosystem for current and future generations.

Mission:

Our Mission is to restore the ecological and hydrological integrity of the Outlet Creek watershed and to protect the land and water through careful stewardship.

Principles:

Our Guiding Principles are to follow a wholistic approach, to respect the precautionary principle, and to raise awareness through education.

Goals:

To achieve this mission we will

  1. work to eliminate illegal water diversions and pollution;
  2. restore healthy instream flows;
  3. identify critical biological indicators such as fish, wildlife and vegetation for measuring the health of the watershed;
  4. enhance groundwater recharge;
  5. restore the healthy functioning of the Little Lake wetlands;
  6. educate ourselves and the community about the watershed, including its carrying capacity;
  7. work to institute water conservation;
  8. work with landowners, water districts and any relevant agencies.
